Gauteng Education Gets R4.3 bn

Johannesburg - Providing quality basic education for the province remains a key priority, Gauteng Finance MEC Mandla Nkomfe said on Tuesday.

The province has set aside a total R4.3 billion over the medium term for the construction of new schools as well as the maintenance of and upgrading of existing schools.

NEW TREATMENT FOR PROSTATE CANCER

Pretoria - Patients at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital will today see the launch of a new technique for the treatment of prostate cancer.

Radiation oncologist based at the hospital, Professor Vinay Sharma, said approximately 50 percent of patients attending the Charlotte Maxeke hospital diagnosed with prostate cancer will benefit from this new technique.

East London - A R1.3-billion investment by government into three economic zones in the country will breathe life back into the Eastern Cape's economy.

Coega Development Corporation (CDC) marketing and communications

manager, Ayanda Vilakazi, said according to the 2012 Estimates of National Expenditure, government has set aside an estimated R1.3 billion for developing industrial development zone infrastructure to increase the export of value-added commodities.
